Three Ways Travel Nurses Can Connect on Social Media

Nurse connecting on social mediaAs a travel nurse, you’re often miles from family and friends, and it can be difficult to cultivate friendships with other nurses when you only work at an assignment for a few weeks at a time. One easy way to keep in touch and network with other travelers is through social media. Here are several ways you can connect with travel nurses who can help you:

Like your staffing company’s Facebook page. Even if you’re not active on Facebook yourself, you can still get a glimpse of the staffing company’s culture, read company and industry news and see photos and stories from other travel nurses by liking the brand’s Facebook page. If you are an active Facebook user, take time to connect with other nurses who post on the wall, comment on stories or share their insights in groups. Chances are, they’ve been in your shoes and have some tips on making your assignment easier.

Connect with your staffing company on Twitter. While Twitter requires short 140-character posts and is not as visual as Facebook, following your staffing company on this social media outlet is worthwhile. You can find travel nursing jobs, get links to trending industry news and find other travel nurses who follow the company you can connect with. Additionally, it’s a good idea to follow national organizations, like the American Nurses Association, to get the latest news.

Follow your staffing company on LinkedIn. Maintaining an active LinkedIn profile can help you find jobs, and following your staffing company on LinkedIn ensures that you get industry news and get in touch with other travel nurses who frequently comment or like the posts. Connect with a travel nurse working in an area you’d like to work in next. He or she probably has insights about the area’s culture, destinations to visit and even what to pack for the climate.
