Unique Miami attractions. If you’ve seen Miami Vice or CSI: Miami, you probably picture glamorous beaches and funky night clubs, but there’s far more to explore in this city. Visit the 38-acre Miami Seaquarium to see dolphins, killer whales and harbor seals, check out the flamingos, parrots and orangutans at Jungle Island, and watch more than 300 primates play in the Monkey Jungle. If art is more up your alley, visit the South Beach Art Deco District to see 800 buildings constructed in the 1920s, ’30s and ’40s. The Coral Castle, just south of Miami, is also worth a visit, as is the Venetian Pool in nearby Coral Gables.
Picturesque Florida Keys. Only in Florida can you drive more than 100 miles through 30 different keys, part of a coral archipelago that extends into the Atlantic Ocean beneath Florida. While Key Largo is well known as the diving capital of the world and the closest key to the mainland, Islamorada (which includes six keys) is a fisherman’s paradise, and Key West features historic homes that once belonged to Elizabeth Taylor and Ernest Hemingway. The Florida Keys are also connected in part by the famous Seven-Mile Bridge, a unique destination itself.
One-of-a-kind animals in the Everglades. Explore 1.5 million acres of wetlands in the Everglades, southeast of Miami in Florida’s southernmost tip. Though alligators and crocodiles both live in the Everglades, this national park is also home to panthers, manatees, dolphins, pilot whales and even foxes and bears. If you want to get an even closer look at the alligators, visit the Everglades Alligator Farm in Homestead or Everglades Holiday Park in Fort Lauderdale.
