Working in the emergency room has been the perfect environment for Naomi Weaver, a nurse with nearly 10 years of experience who loves the fast-paced environment. She learned about travel nursing jobs from friends who traveled together and, after gaining enough experience, got in touch with RNnetwork.
“After talking to my recruiter, Diedra, for about 45 minutes, I knew in my heart that I found the right company. She was amazing and helped me with all the paperwork and getting started,” Naomi recalls. “You can really tell that she cares about her nurses. RNnetwork is by far the friendliest and most helpful company.”
Fulfilling a calling as a nurse
While Naomi is only on her second travel nurse assignment, she says her years of experience as a nurse have taught her empathy for others.
“I believe that God gave me the gift of caring and compassion I use so much in the nursing field. I love being able to minister to people in their time of need, whether it is spiritually or physically,” she says. “I love seeing my patients who were extremely sick come back to us later and hug our necks and thank us for saving their lives.”
Making time for family and friends
Since Naomi comes from a very tight-knit family, she says the hardest part of traveling is being away from them. If it’s possible, she recommends taking a break from work before your travel nursing assignments so you can spend time with loved ones.
“I will be forever grateful I was able to quit my full-time job a month before getting my first contract since I had lots of PTO built up. During that time, I went hunting with my elderly father and my brothers,” Naomi says. “I will always treasure the memories I made with my family.”
Being an assertive traveler
Naomi also encourages new travelers to ask for and provide lots of feedback while they’re on assignment.
“The only dumb question is the one that’s not asked. When the hospital calls you for an interview, ask them questions. If you don’t ask, you’ll never know,” she expresses. “Your recruiters learn from you as well, so share with them how your assignment is going and what you recommend to other travelers who want to come to that facility.”
Reaching lifelong dreams
The flexibility and increased income Naomi enjoys through travel nursing is allowing her to achieve an important goal as well.
“I’d like to take a couple months off and use my nursing skills to serve God on a mission somewhere. Because of the debt I acquired through nursing school, I haven’t been able to yet,” Naomi says. “Now that I’ll be out of debt soon, I’ll fulfill that dream of mine shortly.”
