Did you celebrate National Nurses Week in a unique way? These nurses sailed from Tampa, Florida, to Cozumel, Mexico, on the 2015 Scrubs Cruise — and earned continuing education units while at sea.
The Scrubs Cruise, held April 30 – May 4, offered nurses and others who wear scrubs to work — doctors, medical assistants and dental hygienists — the chance to relax, participate in themed parties and learn from RNnetwork’s clinical nurse manager, Susan O’Brien, who taught the following sessions during the cruise:
- Confidentiality in Healthcare: Legal and Ethical Concerns
- Documentation: The Process and Legal and Administrative Consideration
“We had nurses from different specialties attend, including labor & delivery, ER, corrections and med-surg. They were a fun group, and we stayed with general topics that would apply to all specialties and that we could cover quickly,” Susan shares. “They asked us to come back but suggested we hold the classes poolside next time!”
RNnetwork recruiter and registered nurse Rachel Shafer coordinated the classes and attended the cruise with senior housing coordinator Melinda Askervold. The company also sponsored gift bags for each of the attendees and presented one lucky winner in the class with a gift basket. Those who attended the class had access to all CEUs for 10 business days following the cruise.
When they weren’t aboard the ship, the nurses explored the Mayan ruins at Chichen Itza, relaxed on the beach and dived to the famous Palancar Reef in Cozumel, Mexico.
